Poll: New Yorkers Don’t Want Daughters Interning for State Legislature

A slim majority of  New York voters think Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver should resign over his mishandling of the Vito Lopez sexual harassment scandal, according to a new poll out Wednesday, which also found most parents want their daughters steering clear of Albany.

The Quinnipiac poll found that 51 percent of those surveyed think Mr. Silver should step down from office, versus just 22 percent who feel he should remain. The feeling was especially high among men, suburban voters and Republicans.

Poll Finds Congress Less Popular Than Cockroaches and Root Canals

The US Capitol Building is pictured at dA new poll out from the liberal-leaning firm Public Policy Polling shows just how much dislike Congress. While polls typically simply show lawmakers’ low approval ratings, PPP decided to take a different route and poll approval ratings for Congress compared to other wildly unpopular things. Amazingly, Congress polled even lower than a slew of them including lice, traffic jams, root canals, colonoscopies, cockroaches and the ancient Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan.

Governor Andrew Cuomo may have managed to sell his tax code overhaul to Albany lawmakers, but voters aren’t so sure about the plan. However, the lukewarm reaction to the tax plan hasn’t affected the governor’s approval rating. According to a new Quinnipiac poll, 68% of New Yorkers approve of the job the governor is doing, but only 38% of voters gave a thumb’s up to the state’s new tax rates.
