After being forced to resigned after a lurid sexual harassment scandal that tarnished powerful Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver, now-City Council candidate Vito Lopez has become the leper of the Democratic establishment, shunned by formerly loyal supporters and castigated in the harshest terms.

But ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who is locked in an increasingly negative race for comptroller, stands out as the rare candidate willing to offer a few kind words.

Congressman Jerry Nadler, a long-time ally of comptroller hopeful Scott Stringer, ripped into Mr. Stinger’s high-profile rival today after watching the two candidates slug it out on television last night.

“It’s not even primarily the fact that he patronized a prostitute,” Mr. Nadler told Politicker of ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who is currently ahead in the polls. “It’s that he was prosecuting people for the same thing he was doing–that’s the hypocrisy.”

Scott Stringer Battles Eliot Spitzer for the Outer Borough Vote

A long train ride away from his Upper West Side home, comptroller hopeful Scott Stringer stumped at a bustling Brooklyn intersection yesterday, straining to introduce himself to voters who had never heard of the low-key Manhattan borough president.

Passing out campaign literature with Brooklyn Councilman Jumaane Williams near a Flatbush subway stop, the bespectacled, suit-clad Stringer struck a contrast with the many working class, black voters hustling into and out of the Flatbush Avenue station.
