San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is set to start his own radio show on May 3, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting.
"The Gavin Newsom Show" will air on Saturdays at noon on KKGN 960 AM, a progressive San Francisco radio station.
The paper reports that Newsom will use the show to interview local personalities and newsmakers. There will also be live calls from listeners.
"We're really excited about this, and we jumped at the opportunity. Most programs of this type are normally done as part of an existing show, with a regular host,” said the station’s Program Director, John Scott. “This is Gavin Newsom, on his own, no rules, his passions and his interests.”
For Newsom, a potential 2010 gubernatorial candidate, the radio program provides an opportunity to extend his reach beyond the immediate San Francisco Bay Area.
“It's going to be a great way for him to engage with his constituents and fans,” said Scott in a release announcing the show. “The test shows we've already done have been really compelling!"
