With 24-hour news channels, C-SPAN, blogs and the internet, is there really a need for pundits to attend the Democratic and Republican national conventions?

For only the second time since 1980, Horsey won't be attending the national party conventions, choosing instead to attend "virtual conventions," where he will draw and blog as he scans the coverage from all the media available to him.
"A person sitting at home can get more information than ever about what's going on," Horsey said on his blog.
He also defended the conventions against the charge that they are largely a waste of time.
"In the America of 2008, most folks spend too little time paying attention to politics and that has led us all into frequent trouble. These conventions are the best chance for our two political parties to state their case and tell their story. We should all be paying heed to what both the Democrats and the Republicans have to say because, like it or not, one of their nominees is going to be running the show for the next four years and, in the process, changing each of our lives, for good or ill."
