RGA calls on Spitzer to resign

The Republican Governors Association is calling on New York Governor Eliot Spitzer to step down.

In a 3:12 PM email blasted out to political reporters, RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers called on Spitzer to resign.

“The Governor of New York should immediately resign from office and allow the people of New York to pursue honest leadership,” said Ayers in the release. “The American people are tired of corrupt and hypocritical politicians. The Governor of New York is just another in the long list of politicians that have failed their constituents.”

But Democratic Governors Association spokesman Brian Namey tells Politicker.com, “I think it’s inappropriate for anyone to play politics with this, especially before all the facts are known.”

Namey added, “our thoughts and prayers are with the Governor and his family.”
