Rendell met with Obama transition team to talk infrastructure

To say that infrastructure investment is a favorite topic of Gov. Ed Rendell's is an understatement. The Democrat constantly harps on the need to rebuild the nation's ailing bridges, roads and sewer systems, jumping at any opportunity to bring up the conversation. He's worked across the aisle to promote the need, and made it the theme of his recently-began chairmanship of the National Governors Association.

Add President-elect Barack Obama to the list of those listening.

The governor met with Obama's transition team last week to "promote infrastructure investment," Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo told PolitickerPA.com today. Obama has already signaled his intention to spur the economy in part by spending heavily on infrastructure renewal. Ardo said the meeting, held Monday in Washington, only cemented that.

"I think that the Obama team is clearly on board with the same perspective as that of the governor," he said." I think this did not appear to be a hard sell to people who understand the economic benefits of investing in infrastructure and the human benefits to those workers who are helped by it.

"The governor is excited that [Obama's] economic team appears to understand that infrastructure investment is the most logical way to spur the economy," Ardo added. "That's a position that the governor has held for many months."
