In a WTOK story covering the launch of a Mississippi Democratic headquarters in Meridian, Fleming was quick to offer a vote of confidence for his party in November: "We had 70,000 new voters show up in the Democratic Primary," Fleming said. "So, we know that we're going to reach our number of getting all these new registered voters in and we're going to do our part to make sure that they get back to the polls in November and we just feel it."

U.S. Senate: Mississippi


Republican incumbent Roger Wicker won the U.S. Senate race in Mississippi on Tuesday, beating back a strong challenge by Democrat Ronnie Musgrove, Fox News projected.Wicker, who had been appointed at the end of 2007 to fill the Senate seat vacated by retired Republican Sen. Trent Lott, will now serve the remaining four years of that six-year term. Democrats had hoped for an upset victory in this Southern state that has voted Republican in the last seven presidential elections.
