The Commercial Appeal is reporting that Memphis Mayor Willie Gerenton and former Shelby County Judge George Brown are involved in new advertisements to be launched by the Alexander campaign.

In their write up of Tuke's primary win, the Tennessean wrote: "But the biggest surprise in the race was the strong showing from Nashville investor Gary G. Davis, who initially surged to the front of the Democratic field in spite of the fact he had raised no money for his campaign and had attracted zero media coverage throughout the primary."
Then they speculated on a reason why:
"There was some speculation that voters might have confused him with U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis, who is considering a Senate run in 2010, but Davis credits his door-to-door grassroots campaign effort."

Tuke won the Aug. 7 Democratic primary and will face Alexander, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary, in the November general election.

Former Democratic Party Chair Bob Tuke outraised his primary opponents in the recent filings raising nearly $200,000 and having $260,000 cash on hand.
Early voting for that primary, by the way, begins Friday.
Whoever makes it out of that Aug. 5 primary will have to face Lamar Alexander who just collected another $600,000 in the past three months and now has $3.2 million cash on hand.
