About the Race

There’s only one scenario that could make the 2008 race for United States Senator in Delaware competitive, and that’s if Barack Obama picks the six-term incumbent, Joe Biden, as his running mate. And a replacement Democratic candidate for Biden – possibly retiring Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, maybe Biden’s son, state Attorney General Beau Biden – would only be threatened if the Republicans couldn’t pull their candidate, TV pundit Christine O’Donnell – and recruit someone with a stronger base and ability to raise money.

Otherwise Joe Biden, who isn’t likely to run for President again, is safe, safe, safe. After all, he's no Caleb Boggs -- the popular Senator and ex-Governor he upset in 1972 when he was just 29-years-old.
