Symington said the deadline to use the money is approaching, but a spokesman for the state's transportation agency said there is no deadline. The Douglas camp accuses its opponent of either misrepresenting or misunderstanding the facts.

Pollina is launching his first TV ads of the campaign, according to PolitickerVT.com. They'll run on WCAX.

Democrats are attacking Douglas's TV ad that criticizes Symington for her incomplete personal financial disclosures, according to The Associated Press. "Rather than attacking Vermont's problems, Jim Douglas chooses to attack Gaye Symington," said Ian Carleton, chairman of the state Democratic Committee. The Douglas camp maintains that the ad is fair.

A WCAX Channel 3 poll has Douglas holding a commanding 15-point lead, The Burlington Free Press is reporting. The 400-person survey, conducted by Pollster Research 2000, had Douglas at 48 percent, Symington at 33 percent and Pollina at 7 percent with 12 percent undecided.

PolitickerVT.com reports that Symington is catching a lot of grief over her bungled attempt to release tax records, a voluntary and customary act required of gubernatorial candidates in this state.

The problem is that shielded her husband's income by, get this, by passing out a fake return with only her information. She reasoned by saying that she was the only one running for governor and not her husband, an executive at Ben and Jerry's. But Douglas has seized on the issue and the editorial page of the Burlington Free Press agreed. They said there was a  "cloud" over Symington's campaign now.

PolitickerVT.com reports that campaign finance records released today show incumbent Gov. Jim Douglas, a Republican, raised more than $500,000 in the past seven months.

Democratic challenger Gaye Symington raised over $200,000 in the little over two months since she has been in the race. Independent candidate Anthony Pollina raised around $150,000.
