About the Race

ANALYSIS: House Democrats couldn't be happier with how the 2008 election is turning out. But Georgia's 13th Congressional District is giving them some last-minute heartburn, with party operatives saying Republican challenger Deborah Honeycutt is now within the margin of error. Honeycutt has raised and spent more than $4 million in the contest to hammer incumbent David Scott on television advertisements and in mailers. Scott, who dispatched of Honeycutt in 2006 by a steep 38 percent margin, has been less than active on the campaign front this cycle, raising just $1 million. With the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee now engaged in the contest, Scott will likely get a boost in the polls. But in a heavily African-American district, what gives Scott an edge more than anything else is Barack Obama's presence at the top of the ticket.
