The Onion's cartoonist wonders 'Why do the Democrats HATE Arby's Roast Beef Restaurant?'

(click for original)Of all the cartoonists roaming around the convention, trying to gleam tidbits of insight to draw and cover, there's one cartoonist that can't hold back his opinion on what he's seeing; The Onion's satirical editorial cartoonist Kelly.

For the cartoonist that includes a Statue of Liberty crying in every cartoon, Kelly has made some incredible discoveries as he roams around the Democratic National Convention.

Snooping around the Pepsi Center, the business-loving cartoonist noticed the friendly logo of Arby's Roast Beef Restaurant. But upon further examination, he found out that the eatery was closed.

"Why do the Democrats HATE Arby's Roast Beef Restaurant??" Kelly asks on his blog.

"I know the Democrats hate business, but my instincts tell me it's something more than that. Could it be that the secret skeleton in Barack Obama's closet is that he is really a meat-hating vegetarian??"

In another post, Kelly laments the 'Crawfish Monica' he found at a party "celebrating Hurricane Katrina."

"Pity the poor Democrats — still haunted by the spectre of that harlot Lewinsky! Not even their entrees are safe from that bad taste that sordid affair left in America's mouth."

Kelly has had his fair share of controversy with his far-fetched Republican and Fundamentalist Christian leaning editorial cartoons.

According to Onion President Sean Mills in an interview with Wikinews, the cartoonist has generated "a lot of heat."

"He has a very unique take on what is going on in the world," said Mills, "and it does tend to upset some people, but that’s the job of an editorial cartoonist, to be a provocateur."

It seems that Kelly is focusing a large portion of his vitriol at CNN and their CNN Grill, which he claims that he wasn't allowed to enter.

"When I tried to enter I was told the Grill was for CNN employees ONLY," Kelly lamented.

"So much for the time-honored brotherhood of the Press! Chet Huntley must be rolling in his grave."
