For the second time in as many days, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter took his case for federal assistance for cash-strapped cities to the national airwaves.
Speaking on MSNBC Tuesday afternoon, only hours after auto company executives were on Capitol Hill asking for a bailout, Nutter emphasized that cities like Philadelphia were asking only for "access to capital," not outright giveaways.
It also puts people back to work, he said.
"We're not asking for a bailout, we're just asking for a hand," he said less than a week after hand-delivering a letter to Washington requesting federal help. He said opening more federal loans to cities would help put people back to work.
"If we're not providing services, and laying people off and cutting back, it's having a negative impact on the overall economy of cities all across America," Nutter said.
