Quinn Hopes for Rebate Checks But Cites 'Incredibly Serious Budget Situation'

In a brief scrum with reporters in City Hall this afternoon, Christine Quinn said she hoped New Yorkers gets the $400 rebate checks the mayor has tried to rescind.

“I think those checks should be out in the mail as quickly as possible, " she said. "In a perfect world, I would like people to have those rebates before the holidays so they can use them for their Hanukkah gifts or their Christmas presents.”

When asked, Quinn declined to say what leverage she’d apply to compel Bloomberg to release the funds, although technically, he doesn't have the power to stop them from going out.

“There’s a lot of different matters on the table because of the incredibly serious budget situation,” she said, adding, “I don’t think it’s appropriate to negotiate these matters in the press, with all due respect.”

Quinn, who has a very close relationship with Bloomberg, recently opposed his plan to restructure senior centers.
