Nehring meets with other GOP state chairmen in D.C. to discuss future of party

California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring is in Washington, D.C., this week attending a three-day meeting with other Republican officials hosted by high-profile conservative groups.

The discussions, Nehring said, will concern "the future of the party and the conservative movement."

The meeting, hosted by Americans for Tax Reform and the American Conservative Union, has attracted a number of the candidates for chair of the Republican National Committee.

The campaign for the RNC chair is seen by many as a battle for the future of the party, with upwards of nine candidates voicing different ideas on how to lead a Republican revitalization.

Although Nehring is not running for that post, he, along with other state party leaders, will elect the next RNC chair at their annual meeting in late January.
