MN-Sen: More Coleman Desperation

Lest there be any doubt about it, Norm Coleman has pulled a full 180-degree turn in his desperate efforts to hang on to a Senate seat which has slipped out of his grasp (a frequent consequence of actually holding elections).

MN Progressive Report has posted a video of prior arguments before the Minnesota Canvassing Board over the counting of wrongfully rejected absentee ballots - ballots which, in November, the Coleman campaign didn't want counted.

Attorney for Al Franken's campaign, David Lillehaug argued befor the Minnesota Canvassing Board that rejected absentee ballots should be reviewed and counted if they were cast properly.

  • The mundane details of a change of power:

Over the next 36 hours, White House staffers will go through the behind-the-scenes business of turning in their hard passes, coded lapel pins, "flip-top" fancy White House IDs in leather folders, blackberries, cellphones, and security clearances.

At 9:00 p.m. Friday, the highest-level staffers will turn in their gear; and the West Wing will become a ghost town.

Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, Counselor Ed Gillespie, and Press Secy Dana Perino are the senior staffers who will remain here, on standby. Monday is a federal holiday so the White House would be closed anyway.

MN-Sen: Franken petitions court for certificate to be provisionally seated

The days turn into weeks, and Minnesota still has no junior Senator representing the state in Washington.

Democrat Al Franken continues to lead Republican Norm Coleman by 225 votes, and has been certified the winner by the state's board of elections. But Coleman continues to fight in Minnesota's courts, with a suit claiming that some ballots were counted twice and other ballots wrongly rejected (after long fighting the additional counting of ballots, Coleman has apparently identified 654 rejected absentee ballots he likes and wants them counted).

As Coleman's suit makes its way through the legal system, Franken - at this point the certified winner - petitioned the Governor and Secretary of State to grant him an election certificate, which would enable him to serve provisionally until Coleman's legal challenges were finished.
