Bush pardons ex-felon from Los Angeles

President George W. Bush pardoned Los Angeles-resident Ronald Alan Mohrhoff Monday.

Mohrhoff was convicted of unlawful use of a telephone in furtherance of a narcotics felony, possession of cocaine, in 1984. He was sentenced to one year in prison followed by five years probation with 2,500 hours of community service.

Bush also pardoned 13 others, though Mohrhoff was the only California resident.

Why

I wonder how bush had ties to this felon who happened to be from Los Angeles. Why would bush pardon him? Is he just wiping the felon tag off of his record? Los Angeles seems far away from where bush grew up
