Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (D-Prince George's County) is rumored to be a potential candidate for secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs under President-elect Barack Obama.
A close source to Obama's transition efforts told The National Journal on Friday that Brown is being given "serious consideration" for the post and has already undergone the vetting process.
Brown landed a gig as the transition team's co-chair of the Agency Review Team for the Department of Veterans Affairs last week and has said either way if he wanted to join the new administration.
"Right now any of that conversation is just conversation," Brown's press secretary Mike Raia told PolitickerMD.com. Raia said Brown was focused on his job as lieutenant governor and was honored to have a role in the transition efforts.
When asked if Brown was being vetted, Raia said he didn't know and that such matters were handled by the Obama transition team.
Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-Baltimore) said his second in command had all the right qualifications for a potential appointment.
"Given his talents, his military service, and his abilities, it is natural that people would speculate about the possibility of the Lieutenant Governor being Secretary of Veterans Affairs in the Obama Administration." O'Malley said in a statement.
