Anchorage Daily News cartoonist latest McClatchy casuality

For the second time in as many weeks, McClatchy is saying goodbye to another editorial cartoonist.

The Daily Cartoonist reports that Peter Dunlap-Shohl, the editorial cartoonist with The Anchorage Daily News for the last 25 years, has accepted a buyout offer. This will be his last week with the paper.

"Our three person opinion staff (not counting editorial page editor Matthew Zencey) was told that one of our positions would be eliminated," Dunlap-Shohl said. "On considering a number of factors both personal and journalistic, I volunteered to be the body."

Dunlap-Shohl was the last full-time cartoonist working in Alaska, and his departure comes as Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is at the top of most news reports, and prepares for a much-talked about debate with Joe Biden on Thursday.

"I do not know an adequate word to describe this level of stupidity on the part of McClatchy," said Jimmy Margulies, the editorial cartoonist for The Record. "They make Tribune Company seem like compassionate visionaries.

According to the Daily Cartoonist, Dunlap-Shohl plans on building a web site and doing freelance cartoons for the paper - something that is still be worked out. He also has a backlog of projects he’ll now be able to attend to.

"I have a shoe card at Skinny Raven with several stamps that will get me well on my way to a free pair of running shoes," Dunlap-Shohl said.

"And my sense of humor."

Another Lib Bites The Dust

You will figure out one of these years that liberalism does not sell. Leftist cartoonists are out of touch. Your September 11th cartoon, for example, was out right disgusting.

Another Lib, huh?

Well Jesse,

Libs just kicked your ass in the elections. If you picked up a newspaper and I doubt you did, you would have rethought your Lib comment.

Homeschooled rubes like you are terrified of reading words. So read these:

Peter Dunlap-Shohl is an amazing talent that not only battles Parkinson's disease but has been the Daily News Editorial Cartoonist for the past 25 years.

The truth is that's probably longer than you've been alive.

And the truth has a Liberal bias.

Good luck in your PR hackdom getting oil drilling started on the Jersey Coast.
