Alabama cartoonist helps heal community after tradegy

Scott Stantis, the editorial cartoonist for the Birmingham News, presented a very touching story on his blog on Monday.

Courtsey Birmingham News/Scott Stantis)On March 1, 2007, a tornado ripped through Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Ala., killing eight students. Scott was emotionally moved, and drew this cartoon memorializing the loss.

A request was made by the "Enterprise Eight Scholarship" to use the cartoon on a t-shirt, and on Monday, he received in the mail his very own t-shirt and a thank you note signed by the families of the victims.

It's a really touching story, and illustrates that although editorial cartoons by their nature tend to be critical enterprises, sometimes they can reach above and be inspiring to the people of a community.
