Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to announce tomorrow that Mitchell Silver will be the new parks commissioner in his slowly-growing administration, sources say.

Mr. Silver is the former president of the American Planning Association, and is currently the head of planning in Raleigh, North Carolina. He formerly worked as a town manager in New Jersey and deputy planning director in Washington, D.C., according to an online bio.

His expecting hiring was first reported by Crain’s Business New York.

Mr. Silver had been considered a top contented to lead the city’s planing department, but was passed over for transition co-chair Carl Weisbrod instead.

He describes himself on Twitter as “Immediate Past President, American Planning Association, City Innovator, Chief Planning & Development Officer, Raleigh, NC.”

Mr. de Blasio is set to hold “a press conference to make a personnel appointment” tomorrow in Seward Park. A spokesman for the mayor’s office declined to comment.
