Mayor Bill de Blasio is not pleased that a 16-year-old New Jersey teen was reportedly able to scale 1 World Trade Center this weekend.

Asked about the story, reported on the front page of today’s New York Post, Mr. de Blasio labeled the incident “shocking and troubling” given the amount of security present at the site.

“Obviously it’s shocking and troubling. And I don’t know how it possibly could have happened,” said the mayor, taking questions at an unrelated press conference this afternoon.

Mr. de Blasio said he could take solace, however, in that two of the personnel responsible for the security lapses were punished. A guard was reportedly fired for sleeping on the job and an elevator operator was reassigned for giving the daredevil teen a lift Sunday morning.

“I at least can say,” said Mr. de Blasio, “from what I’ve heard in media reports, there obviously were consequences for some of the people involved who made mistakes.”
