Joe Lhota is denying a report that he said he supports hunting Staten Island deer with bow and arrow. Nevertheless, before the denial was issued, rivals John Catsimatidis and Bill Thompson had already blasted Mr. Lhota, with Mr. Thompson's spokesman declaring, “Bill Thompson will focus on creating middle-class jobs ... not on killing Bambi.”

Comptroller John Liu opened up to his New York Post nemesis, Cindy Adams, and discussed his childhood, family life, daily schedule and, of course, his phone situation. "I always, even now, keep a rotary dial at home," Mr. Liu explained. "Rotaries don’t require electrical service. They don’t break down. Just plug into the wall jack. They always work."

Quinnipiac released a new survey on the mayoral race and, unsurprisingly, things have largely held steady since the outfit polled the city last month, with Council Speaker Christine Quinn far ahead of Public Advocate Bill de Blasio 37 to 14 percent. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Liu post 11 and 9 percent respectively. The poll also found New Yorkers are comfortable with a gay mayor and a mayor with a gay spouse, but not so much a "business executive" mayor.

Could the field for public advocate narrow in the near future? Candidate Noah Gotbaum isn't denying rumors that he's going to drop down and run for term-limited Councilwoman Gale Brewer's seat instead. “I will clarify what I intend to do later this week,” Mr. Gotbaum said. Although he was always a bit of a long-shot for the citywide race, Mr. Gotbaum had a campaign website for the public advocate position and had been attending candidate forums.

State Senator Diane Savino said it was tough to convince her boyfriend, Senator Jeff Klein, on her medical marijuana bill. "While we're a unified conference on many things, we don't agree on everything," she explained on Capital Tonight. "You don't want to put something on ... the agenda that you don't have the absolute support of everyone. Now, interestingly, Senator Valesky supports it. Senator Carlucci supports it. I support it. Senator Smith is 90 percent of the way there. And the person I had to do the most convincing, ironically, was Senator Klein. "

The congressional candidate backed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "super PAC" absolutely crushed in Illinois last night, causing Mr. Bloomberg to declare victory: “This is an important victory for common sense leadership on gun violence, a problem that plagues the whole nation. And it's the latest sign that voters across the country are demanding change from their representatives in Washington -- not business as usual. As Congress considers the President's gun package, voters in Illinois have sent a clear message: we need common sense gun legislation now."

Here's video of Mr. Bloomberg stating "this time we agree" to Councilman Charles Barron during his Dov Hikind protest:
