Earlier today, President Barack Obama announced his flagship campaign operation, Obama for America, will officially end this Sunday and become a political nonprofit known by the same acronym, “Organizing for Action.”

In an email to his supporters, Mr. Obama said the new organization will serve as “an unparalleled force in American politics” to achieve “legislative action” in Washington.

“Following in the footsteps of the campaign you built, Organizing for Action will be an unparalleled force in American politics,” Mr. Obama said in an email to his supporters. “It will work to turn our shared values into legislative action — and it’ll empower the next generation of leaders in our movement.”

Though Obama For America may be over, the campaign fundraising solicitations don’t seem to be stopping just because Election Day has come and gone. The email announcing the launch of Organizing For America declared it was “PAID FOR BY ORGANIZING FOR ACTION,” but users who click through and sign the Organizing for Action petition are sent to a contribution page for “Obama Victory Fund 2012.”

According to officials speaking with the Associated Press, “the organization plans to accept donations from individuals and corporations… but not take money from lobbyists and political action committees.”

Organizing for Action will reportedly be set up as a 501(c)4 social welfare group, the same categorization used by some prominent conservative groups last election cycle, such as Crossroads GPS and Americans for Prosperity. Unlike these organizations, however, Mr. Obama’s organization intends to disclose the identities of its donors.
