In a huge surprise, Mindy Meyer lost her bid to unseat Democratic Senator Kevin Parker in one of the most Democratic seats in the state. "Does she know she lost?" Gawker wondered. "Or did she forget she was in a race?" In response to a Twitter inquiry as to whether he received a conciliatory phone call from the pink pol, Mr. Parker responded, "Still waiting for it..."

Senator David Storobin, defeated yesterday by Simcha Felder, is now considering running for term-limited Councilman Mike Nelson's seat. Possibly referencing the quiet Republican support enjoyed by Mr. Felder, Mr. Storobin quipped, “First I had to beat one political party, and then I had to try and beat both of them.”

As a side note, we hear Mr. Felder is going to be sitting down with Minority Leader John Sampson as the drama unfolds over which party will control the chamber next year.

Red Horse Strategies also declared victory with last night's election results, touting their independent expenditure efforts on behalf of the Senate Democrats, as well as Assemblywoman Grace Meng's resounding victory in a congressional race.

A direct take on the Senate Democrats' calculation needed to retake the majority:

So here's how it all looks, if Tkaczyk hangs on: You have 28 actual Democrats, 4 IDC members, 1 Simcha Felder, and 30 Republicans. If the IDC sticks together, then they'll hold the balance of power and Felder won't matter.

Meanwhile, soon-to-be-former Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle isn't conceding her rematch against Dan Maffei, who won a comfortable victory during last night's election.

And the election between Congressman Michael Grimm and challenger Mark Murphy may be over, but the war of words isn't. After winning, Mr. Grimm told the Staten Island Advance Mr. Murphy hadn't called, but, because of his Democratic rival's negativity, he "wouldn't take his concession call, even if he called." In a statement this afternoon, Mr. Murphy fired back, "As for my opponents disgraceful remarks after claiming a victory, I believe it continues to show his poor judgement, and continues to set the wrong example for all those in the community that look for honor, humility and a steady hand and cool head from those we elect.”

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand impressively beat her colleague Chuck Schumer's 71.2% statewide record last night. “I believe she is still vulnerable," Conservative Party chairman Mike Long nevertheless insisted. "Because she really has no record to pile up and take credit for. And that was the key to this race. She lacks the record."
