Mayor Michael Bloomberg is fantastically moderately moderate in the fundraisers being held at his Manhattan townhouse. Notably, he's helping U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill beat back foot-in-mouth challenger Todd Akin.

Oof. Talk about less-than-desirable front page covers is this one from the Buffalo News bashing Governor Andrew Cuomo: "Cuomo's travels as governor have included Batavia and Plattsburgh, but not the Falls, and a city in crisis is wondering when he'll stop by. Issues like casino revenues and ties to unpopular developer would greet Gov. Andrew Cuomo if he visited the Falls."

GOP Senator Tom Libous, the head of his conference's campaign efforts, spun Mr. Cuomo endorsing Democrat Joe Addabbo like this last night:

"The governor said he was going to support those individuals who were supportive of him on gay marriage, Addabbo was one of them. But I'm not sure if that helps Joe Addabbo. We're doing well with Joe Addabbo because of his horrible votes when he was in the majority when they took over and they increased taxes and spending....While I think the gay marriage thing will be a nice thing for Joe today, at the end of the day, Eric Ulrich has the pulse of the people."

"I really got to hand it to Senator Libous, he's a piece of work," State Senator Mike Gianaris, Mr. Libous' Democratic campaign counterpart, said with a big smile to respond. "He spent the last year and a half telling everyone how great the governor's support is when he thought he might be getting it, and now that it's gone to one of our members, somehow it's an albatross? Let me say this, we're more than proud to have Governor Cuomo's support for our candidates and for our members. If Tom Libous is not happy to have the governor's support, then so be it, but we'll take it any day of the week."

In the same link, Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny confirmed he's considering staying in the State Legislature instead of the all-but-assumed run for term-limited Councilman Domenic Recchia's seat. Sources say Speaker Shelly Silver is fond of Mr. Brook-Krasny, which the assemblyman hinted at in the article. “The main factor is that I'm so quickly getting into a senior position," he explained.
