The Republican House Majority’s calendar features a five week break right now, and Mark Murphy, the Democratic challenger to Congressman Michael Grimm, is apparently just not going to take the idleness sitting down.
“Grimm has failed the middle class, plain and simple, and the longer he is in office, the higherthe price we will pay for his failures,” Mr. Murphy said at a press conference today, according to a statement provided by his campaign. ”We cannot afford his schemes and shenanigans for anotherterm. I stand with you to say we will not Grimm and bear it.”
“In this race, it comes down to a choice—a choice between a fighter for the middle class, andsomeone who voted to give himself a taxpayer funded vacation,” he continued. “A choice between someone whowill deliver honest and effective leadership on pressing issues for our community, and someonewho cheats his constituents skips town before doing his job.”
The normal pun political types make with Mr. Grimm’s name is “grim” so the “grin” one is at least a little bit refreshing. Whether or not it will be enough to provoke an eviscerating attack from Grimm ally Guy Molinari, like Mr. Murphy’s last press conference wrought, remains to be seen.
But the main takeaway from today’s event might be that Mr. Murphy, who previously had been running a mostly below-the-radar campaign, seems to be heating up his efforts in the competitive Staten Island-based district.
