(Photo: Getty)

State Senator Eric Adams, currently the sole candidate for Brooklyn Borough President, made a strong mark with his first report of his campaign's fundraising today. In the last six months, Mr. Adams raised over $215,000 from 1,168 donors, with the vast majority of them coming from smaller contributors who are far from the legal limit and could give additional amounts in the future.

His colleagues in the State Legislature have also been generous. Minority Leader John Sampson was among the few donors to give $3,850 to Mr. Adam's campaign, with Senators Toby Ann Stavisky and Ruben Diaz chipping in as well, in addition to many government workers and the like.

Furthermore, he has only spent about $20,000 thus far, meaning most of that money will be used later for the campaign, which makes sense as voters won't be heading to the polls until 2013.

Mr. Adams has been running unopposed since current Borough President Marty Markowiz's Chief of Staff Carlo Scissura dropped out of the race to replace his boss, although it seems likely he won't have the race to himself forever. Brooklyn is a large place with many aspiring politicians who would welcome profile of a borough president, but with Mr. Adam's cash lead and political support, he's unquestionably the frontrunner for the position.

Park Slope Councilman Brad Lander was considering a campaign for the job himself earlier this year, but he has yet to take any formal steps towards such a run.
