Grace Meng and other pol on the street corner.

With the sun setting and almost every voter having cast their ballots, Assemblywoman Grace Meng chose to make her final push in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens, blocks from the location of her her victory party.

"Everybody and their brother is here," as Assemblyman David Weprin put it when Councilman Mark Weprin strolled up.

Of course, there weren't too many voters left to persuade, so the group of elected officials were mostly focused on bantering with one another and musing on turnout as the the 9 p.m. poll closing time approached.

"Grace stop talking to the politicians, there's a voter!" came a cry from the crowd at one point, causing Ms. Meng to rush over to introduce herself.

"A live one, Grace!" joked another later.

At one point in the evening, a truck drove by and stopped.

"Is this a funeral?" the driver called out, wondering why so many black suits and blazers were in one place.

Eventually they all folded up shop to head over to the Plum Restaurant, where the crowd of supporters is currently filling the room with red, white and blue balloons floating above them and sitting on the ground. Everyone we spoke to thought Ms. Meng would win a comfortable victory over rivals Assemblyman Rory Lancman and Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley when the results finally emerged.

"I'm very confident that Grace will have a big victory tonight," Assemblyman Weprin explained. "Our polling numbers early on showed her ahead, and it went on from there. ... Everywhere she's gone and she's met people, they loved her."
