After some delay, Councilman Dan Halloran, the Republican candidate for a northeastern Queens Congressional District, finally posted his latest fundraising report showing the amount of campaign cash raised through the 6th of this month, and the number wasn’t exactly overwhelming. In just 7 contributions, Mr. Halloran raised a bit under $10,000.
Ms. Meng, comparatively, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in that same period, and gave her campaign a $60,000 loan right before the primary election yesterday. However, it is likely she spent a lot of that money vanquishing her Democratic foes. Her campaign spokesman said they have ”solid six figures already on hand” for the general election, with “citywide, statewide and national fundraising infrastructure being put in place.”
For his part, Mr. Halloran’s campaign spokesman accurately pointed out that the Republican candidate was off the grid for multiple weeks recently due to a major medical issue.
“But more, we haven’t even had our campaign kickoff event yet,” he continued. “Campaign season begins today now that we actually have an opponent.”
