At today’s press conference on the set of Saturday Night Live touting the growth of the media industry in New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg did his customary Spanish remarks after concluding his English address, much to the amusement of comedian Seth Meyers standing behind him and quietly chuckling.
“That was the highlight for me,” Mr. Meyers said in response to a reporter asking about it afterwards.
“It reminded me that I really have to bone up on my Spanish,” he added. “I didn’t realize how much news you could miss out on, because I completely zoned out when he was speaking English.”
Mr. Bloomberg, who started learning Spanish in recognition of the city’s growing Hispanic population, was in good humor about it all, as he was when the @ElBloombito Twitter account popped up last year to tease him en español.
