The Republican Party and Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign are making the most of Newark Mayor and Obama campaign surrogate Cory Booker’s comment that the attacks on Mr. Romney’s career at Bain Capital being made by the Obama campaign are “nauseating.” A new web video released this afternoon highlights the statements Mr. Booker made on Sunday’s episode of Meet The Press and the RNC is circulating an “I Stand With Cory” petition calling attention to the flap.
“Have You Had Enough Of President Obama’s Attacks On Free Enterprise?” a narrator asks in Mr. Romney’s new video, which is entitled “Big Bain Backfire.” “His Own Key Supporters Have”
The video features footage of Mr. Booker’s comments. After his comments began to cause an uproar, Mr. Booker quickly released a video Sunday afternoon attempting to clarify his remarks.
“Mitt Romney has made his business record a centerpiece of his campaign,” Mr. Booker said. “Therefore, it is reasonable and, in fact, I encourage it, for the Obama campaign to examine that record and to discuss it.”
In an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, former Democratic Tennessee Congressman and Senate candidate Harold Ford said Mr. Booker should not have “backed off” his initial comments about the Bain attacks. The Romney campaign’s new web video also features footage of Mr. Ford’s statements along with a Morning Joe appearance by former Obama administration “auto czar” Steve Rattner from earlier this month in which he says, “I don’t think there’s anything Bain Capital did that they need to be embarrassed about.”
The RNC’s “Stand With Cory” petition encourages potential signers to “stand up for job creators.” After signing online, users are taken to a fundraising page asking them to “add force to your words with a donation today!”
