Earlier this year, Republican candidate David Storobin was kicked off of the "School Choice Party" ballot line in the still ongoing special election to replace Carl Kruger in the State Senate, as not enough valid signatures were collected for the independent ballot designation. Nevertheless, the party is still working to recruit candidates for elections this cycle.

"The New York State School Choice Party is seeking candidates for the 2012 general election," an invitation from the president of the pro-private school organization, Gary Popkin, read. “The School Choice Party first ran candidates in New York in 2000 and has since run candidates from Brooklyn to Buffalo."

They haven't exactly made a big impact thus far. In 2002 they endorsed the Republican congressional candidate Susan Cleary in her challenge to then-Congressman Major Owens in deeply Democratic Brooklyn, as well as a few other candidates for other offices. In 2010 Joseph Hayon campaigned heavily with the group's messaging in  his Assembly campaign against Steve Cymbrowitz, but otherwise they've been fairly quiet for much of the past decade.

"The School Choice Party will nominate candidates who support one or more forms of financial support for parental choice in K-12 education—including but not limited to education tax credits, school vouchers, homeschooling, and tax credits for private scholarships," Mr. Popkin's call for candidates continued. "The School Choice Party hopes to bring together proponents of parental choice in education regardless of their views on other mainstream political issues."
