Comptroller John Liu may not be saying whether he will plow forward with his campaign for mayor next year, but a selection of legislators at various levels of government are showing their support, and asking their supporters to open their wallets for Mr. Liu.
Headlining a May 1st fundraiser for Mr. Liu are State Senator José Peralta, Assemblyman Michael DenDekker, and Councilman Daniel Dromm, according to an invite Mr. Dromm sent out to his supporters. Guests to the Jackson Heights event are requested to contribute to Mr. Liu’s 2013 account.
Mr. Liu has enjoyed continued strong support from his native Queens since his fundraising scandal, so it’s not exactly shocking these three Queens legislators are standing by him. However, it remains notable that they’re still so supportive of his prospective mayoral campaign when the federal investigation into his fundraising operations seems like it has a chance of intensifying in the coming weeks and months.
Also on the host committee are Anthony Gellineau, Barbara Leonardi, Bill Meehan, Brian Lewis, Bruce Friedman, Dennis Harris, Donna Raymond, Ed Westley, George Gibson, George Stamatiades, Gerald Walsh, Juttana Rimreartwate, Lily Gavin, Marta Lebreton, Michael Mallon, Mohammed Pier, Morshed Alam, Peter Kwiath, Robbie Garrison, Rosa Tirado, Rose Marie Poveromo, and Shiv Dass.
