<p>Maybe Lew Fidler was right <a href="http://www.politicker.com/2012/03/28/fidler-and-storobin-are-feeling-good-as-absentees-are-counted/" target="_blank">to be optimistic about the absentee vote counting today</a> in the hotly contested, and very close, special election for the State Senate in Brooklyn.</p>
<p>With 163 of the 757 absentee ballots counted, Mr. Storobin's 119 vote lead from last week has dropped to 62, although, of course, the count is subject to significant fluctuations as pockets of support from both candidates are tallied.</p>
<p><!--more-->In addition, hundreds more currently invalid absentee ballots can be contested by the two campaigns, possibly placing even more votes in play. Needless to say, even though the last vote was cast Tuesday night last week, this race is far from over.</p>
