Clyde Williams Announces That He Will Challenge Charlie Rangel, Too

The uptown political world is already buzzing with the news that State Senator Adriano Espaillat is laying the groundwork to mount a campaign against 21-term incumbent Congressman Charlie Rangel, despite Mr. Rangel's announcement that he will seek re-election.

But now it appears as if that race has already gotten more crowded as former Democratic National Committee head Clyde Williams announced that he too has thrown his hat into the ring:

Today, I am proud to announce my candidacy for Congress to represent the best and most vibrant community New York has to offer – Uptown from East and Central Harlem to the Heights and parts of the Bronx.

We’re at a turning point – as a community and as a country. And we need fresh ideas and new solutions to build on the progress underway as well as tackle the long-standing challenges we face.
I’ve spent nearly three decades in public service and business – including working for President Clinton and President Obama – focusing on helping others achieve their goals and realize their dreams.

I promise to bring that same commitment, energy and passion to the Uptown community and to Congress – and build our shared vision and 2020 action plan.

I hope you’ll join our journey by voting Clyde Williams for Congress on June 26th, 2012!

Mr. Williams has had no trouble fundraising, but he lacks the ties to the district some of the other candidates posses. Others looking at the race include Joyce Johnson and Vince Morgan.
