Bob Turner Undeterred By New Congressional Maps

Most observers agree Congressman Bob Turner was the incumbent most hurt in the Congressional maps released by the special master yesterday. Our own Colin Campbell said the maps left Mr. Turner with “no winnable district to run for reelection in whatsoever,” but the congressman is undeterred.

“I am prepared to run in whatever district I reside in once the final lines are adopted,” Congressman Turner said in a statement.

The special master’s map isn’t necessarily going to be adopted. A three judge panel will hold a hearing to come up with a redistricting solution March 15 unless the Legislature comes to an agreement on their own map that is signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo by March 12. If the Congressional lines are decided in court, the judges are expected to choose something quite close to the special master’s map, but Mr. Turner isn’t worried.

“The redistricting plan introduced today by the Special Master is just another step in the process,” he said.
