Giuliani Compares Birth Control Coverage To Toothpaste [Video]

Former mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared on Fox News on Sunday, mostly to blast President Obama over his Iran policy, but the conversation quickly turned to recent contretemps over Obama’ contraception mandate.

And Hizzoner made an interesting comparison:

“Why should the insurance companies, the government force you to insure for contraceptives? I mean, are they going to have us have to insure for toothpaste? I mean, this is ridiculous. This is part of the overarching massive government takeover telling us what to do about our health care. It’s not just a moral issue. It’s a human rights issue.”

Mr. Giuliani added that Obamacare was really  ”an attempt for the government to take over our medical decisions and dictate to us we have to insure.”

Yes, but toothpaste is not medicine. Elected officials (and former electeds in this case) seem to either not understand or blatantly ignore the medical benefits of birth control for many, many women.
