According to independent sources, Ms. Robinson will like to turn the seat over to her district leader, Robert Cornegy.
An aide to Ms. Robinson confirmed that the Assemblywoman is planning to retire, but that the timing of the announcement is uncertain. Mr. Cornegy could not be reached for comment.
The timing of the retirement could matter if Ms. Robinson ends up trying to turn the seat over to Mr. Cornegy. If she retired soon, it is possible a special election could be called for the same date that a special election will be the Senate seat being vacated by Carl Kruger. Otherwise, there will be an open primary later in the year. The primary date hasn’t been set yet.
Ms. Robinson was first elected in a special election herself in 2002.
