Always outspoken Queens Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. is not at all happy about the proposed legislative lines for the Senate district in Astoria. Mr. Vallone weighed in on the potential District 12 map in a post on his Facebook page this evening:

“Holy crap they drew the Astoria Senate district into something that looks like a baby alien popping out of a stomach!!”
The newly proposed lines would cut off District 12 several blocks South of the old boundary at 20th Avenue. Mr. Vallone described the proposal for the Astoria district as “an outrage” that would “split up our neighborhood.”

“One side of Ditmars is one district, the other side is another. This is an outrage,” Mr. Vallone wrote. “Even I didn’t think they could screw it up this badly.”

Mr. Vallone probably doesn’t need to worry too much about the “alien” district coming to life in Astoria. Governor Cuomo has long said he would veto any redistricting lines drawn by the Legislature rather than through an independent body. This afternoon, a spokesman for the governor said the proposed redistricting lines “are simply unacceptable and would be vetoed by the Governor.”

Check out Mr. Vallone’s original Facebook post and the proposed map for Senate District 12 below:
