Peter Vallone Calls Ellen Barkin a 'Twit' After Anti-NYPD Tweet Tirade

Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. was not amused by actress Ellen Barkin’s anti-cop Tweets this week. Ms. Barkin sent a stream of posts criticizing the NYPD and Mayor Bloomberg after she saw police officers arresting Occupy Wall Street protesters while walking home on 13th Street and 6th Avenue in the wee hours of New Year’s Day. Councilman Vallone responded to Ms. Barkin’s Tweets with a post of his own on his Facebook page yesterday. “The NYPD anxiously awaits your apology. Twit,” he wrote.

Ms. Barkin claimed the police were violently arresting the protesters as well as innocent bystanders

“People being thrown in police vans, arrested for ‘jaywalking’What happened to the NYPD of my youth?Who are u all?Shame shame on u all,” Ms. Barkin wrote in her own uniquely punctuated style. “Just threatened on my street by NYPD,cop shoved me,both hands, onto sidewalk..Is it a crime 2 stand in the street in NY?WTF is going on here?”

After seeing the arrests and being allegedly shoved by the police Ms. Barkin did not mince words in her opinion of the NYPD.

“Fuck all of u,Bloomberg & every1 goose-stepping behind u.I cannot believe what I am seeing.U protect nothing.U ARE the violence in my city,” she wrote.

Ms. Barkin also posted a video, shot by her boyfriend, that she said documented what happened. According to Councilman Vallone, the video actually proves the NYPD did nothing wrong.

“Video shot by her boyfriend … tells a different story. In the video, the young uniformed officer calmly says, ‘Miss, sidewalk,’ as he uses both hands to guide her gently backward out of the street and onto the curb,” Councilman Vallone wrote before suggesting Ms. Barkin should apologize.

This guy is clearly blinded by bias. Anyone can see she was pushed then shoved. Put your Mom, daughter in that position. Support for this guy is withdrawn.

Wrong Dcowley. She was not pushed or shoved. She had even claimed she was jostled. The officers hands were on the back of her shoulders and he calmly did his job in the face of a disgustingly disrespectful Ellen Barkin. I almost half-expected a Rodney King scenario to unfold when I first went to watch the video and was completely dismayed by Ellen’s behavior. This undermined my respect for her.

The verdict is in….Ellen Barkin is looking for attention and she got it.
