Queens Assemblyman Rory Lancman, who is mulling a potential challenge to Congressman Bob Turner, does not seem likely to repeat  Assemblyman David Weprin's approach to President Barack Obama in his campaign against Mr. Turner last year.  In an interview with Yossi Gestetner, Assemblyman Lancman said “I will support the guy who gave the order to kill Osama Bin Laden; the guy who ended the Iraq war; the guy who is ending the war in Afghanistan. That’s my view on national level issues.”

This contrasts sharply with Assemblyman Weprin, whose campaign shied away from mentioning President Obama and once wouldn't even say if he supports the President's reelection. His campaign blamed President Obama for their eventual loss.

Congressman Turner campaigned heavily against the President, who has poor favorability ratings in the district despite winning it in 2008. "Obama thinks he can fix the economy on a bus," read one ad ,prominently featuring an image of President Obama. "He already threw Israel under it."

Like Assemblyman Weprin, Assemblyman Lancman is also a critic of the President's Middle-East policies, and would likely seek to avoid being defined completely by the White House.

Assemblyman Lancman has been regularly hammering Congressman Turner's record, strongly suggesting he's interested in running for Congress. However, New York is destined to lose two Congressional seats in redistricting, and it's more than possible that the district could be consumed by its neighbors.
