The New York City Campaign Finance Board noted yesterday that of the $1.35 million candidates for New York City offices spent in the last six months, over 23% was spent on fundraising efforts to raise more money. These tallies do not include candidates running for state legislative, statewide, or federal offices.

If one thing is certain, it's that the various candidates have no interest in paid outreach to actual voters at this point in the election cycle. Only about 2% of the money spent by the candidates is classified as "voter communication." This makes sense, however, as the campaigns are almost exclusively for the still-distant 2013 election.

The mayoral candidate to spend the most money on fundraising activities was, not coincidentally, the one who also raised the most: Public Advocate Bill de Blasio. Mr. de Blasio raised over $1 million over the last six months, $85,000 of which was spent on activities classified as fundraising.
