Post-Racial America

Ron Paul Doesn't Want To Talk About His Newsletters

During last night’s Republican presidential debate, Ron Paul said the firestorm over the controversial racial statements in his early 1990′s newsletters distracts from the real issues around race in this country.

He also invoked Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks while arguing he’s really the best candidate for African Americans.

“Concentrating on something that was written twenty years ago that I didn’t write, you know, is diverting the attention from most of the important issues,” Mr. Paul said. “More importantly, you ought to ask me what my relationship is for racial relationships, and one of my heroes is Martin Luther King, because he practiced the libertarian principle of peaceful resistance and peaceful civil disobedience, as did Rosa Parks did. But also, I’m the only one up here and the only one in the Democratic party that understands true racism in this country’s in the juficial system.”

Mr. Paul said the true racial problems in this country involve drug law enforcement and military recruitment:

“It has to do with enforcing the drug laws. Look at the percentages. The percentage of people who use drugs are about the same with blacks and whites, and yet, the blacks are arrested way disproportionately, they’re prosecuted, imprisoned way disproportionately, they get they get the death penalty way disproportionately. How many times have you seen a white rich person get the electric chair or get, you know, execution? But poor minorities have an injustice and they have an injustice in war as well, because minorities suffer more even with a draft–with a draft they suffer definitely more and without a draft they’re suffering disproportionately. If we truly want to be concerned about racism, you ought to look at a few of those issues and look at the drug laws which are being so unfairly enforced.”

Mr. Paul’s newsletters featured many controversial racial statements including warnings of a “coming race war,” that 95% of blacks in Washington, D.C. “are semi-criminal or entirely criminal” and a claim that basketball games and music can “set off black rage,” among others. The newsletters were well-received among the white supremacist community at the time of their release.

The letter author has been discovered…god you are jackass. Since your a journalist I will let you figure it out. Ron Paul supporters are tired of doing your jobs for you. I swear all you people do is write headlines!

Smear much? Why does Ron Paul poll better that any other GOP candidate with minorities? Probably because he’s a racist right…

GINGRICH’S NEOCON THINK TANK BEHIND RON PAUL ATTACKS – The US State Dept funds a group called the FDD – Foundation for Defense of Democracies. This is a neocon think-tank where the Ron Paul attacks are originating. Specifically from a guy named James Kirchick. And guess who’s an advisor at FDD? Newt Gingrich.

A Ron Paul presidency means that tens of thousands of African American men will be returning to their families, communities and churches. They can begin working and re-building their lives. That is precisely what will happen when Ron Paul ends the Drug War, pardons non-violent drug offenders, and returns narcotics policy back to the states.

A Ron Paul presidency means that the bombs and drone missiles will stop dropping on Arabs, Africans, and Asians.

A Ron Paul presidency means that the Federal government will no longer threaten the interests of gays who want to pursue marriage in their respective states.

No Republican or Democrat (not even Obama) is promising these things; they neutralize the “Ron Paul is a racist” charge, and they expose Obama (and the GOP) for the damage they have allowed the War on Drugs to do to African American communities.

There are those who accuse others of racism – and then there are those who act to end it. The lost-cause drug laws should end. They keep racism going. They make racism part of the system. Only one candidate wants that to happen – and has the guts to advocate for it within a very resistant GOP. Ron Paul means real change. The real racists would like to stop that.

The propagandists just don’t get it.    People continue to put status and party over country.

Ron Paul is against the most racist legislation in the US this side of Jim Crow.   In fact it’s legislation that if it continues at it’s current pace, there will be more blacks in prison for drug offenses than there were total slaves at the peak of American slavery

Yet instead of addressing the fact that Ron Paul has been speaking out against this injustice for 20+ years, they’d rather continue this pathetic diversion.

Ron Paul is against hundreds of thousands of brown people being killed and displaced from their homes for undeclared wars under false pretenses.

Ron Paul is against hundreds of thousands of blacks being put in prison for bogus drug war that allows Big Banks to launder drug money with slaps on the wrist, and the ATF to go unpunished for dealing guns to the most dangerous drug cartel in the world.    And of course things come full circle when these blacks are put in prisons that have big banks as major shareholders.

If you think someone who has proposed policy like Ron Paul is racist, then you are willfully ignorant.    And quite frankly you are unwittingly helping to betray your country and everything it stands for by attacking the only guy who wants to stop the endless wars, trillions of dollars in debt rising, scaling back of civil liberties, etc

Paul has the ability to make inroads into this crucial voting block. Phony progressives like Walker are terrified.

His argument about real racism is correct. You guys are talking about these newsletters, knowing full well he didn’t even write them, and paying no attention to our racist foreign policy in the Middle East, or the incredibly racist things that Gingrich and Santorum say with their own mouths, in front of cameras, on a daily basis.

Can you talk more about this 20 year old news?  I’m trying to ignore the fact the President is openly assassinating US Citizens on a secret list.  Also, I don’t want to know that we’re bankrupt and openly fomenting for Iran.  They’re brown and scary so please talk more about Ron Paul’s newsletters.  Thanks.

The writer of those articles has already been discoverd by a true journalist who actually investigates things. The authors name is James P Powell. The true journalist who discoverd this is named Ben Swann. If you want to keep writing these bogus articles go ahead, but sooner or later you will fall into the trap the MSM has gotten itself into and have less traffic. BTW Paul voted for the MLK holiday, and the truth about those articles can be found through google video as “Reality check ron paul news letters.”

  • Tequilarun

As  a Canadian we even know here that the author of these newsletters was not Ron Paul. I clearly do not understand why the media does not do their own investigation before printing slanderous information. Or maybe we do understand that the media has its own agenda. very sad state of affairs.

no one brings up president Obama’s church with his  really racist pastor.. it’s rude to constatly bring up the past that has already been explained over and over and over. so why constantly pick on Ron Paul, because there afraid he will do the right thing for this country. and they can’t have that.
DOCTOR Ron Paul is NO more racist then president Obama is.
I’m voting for the one that does the less picking and lying.
    so far. Ron Paul 2012

Paul is right there are more blacks in prison over non violent drug charges then any others. whites get probation or rehab or a slap on the hand while black people get prison. it is completely unfair. and making certain drugs legal would stop that and release a lot of blacks. how can anyone call Ron Paul racist he wants what is best for non violent blacks that are in prison. what is so wrong with that.

oh my gosh, I just checked it out and your right WOW.

  • Talal Kayal

THE AUTHOR OF THOSE REMARKS HAS BEEN DISCOVERED YOU SELLOUT.

  • Zach Martin

News regarding the newsletter flap. James Kirchick just released the name of the only by-lined author from his pdf files of the newsletters. Why didn’t he do this 4 years ago? Paul isn’t believed by many when he says he didn’t exercise sufficient editorial control. New Republic and Stephen Glass, anyone? The irony is that the original piece was written by Kirchick for, you guessed it, The New Republic.

  • Totherepublic

Yeah he does not answer them…because they have been dealt with….this is straining at a gnat, for by them indulging in these dumb questions they would be accepting your assumptions, basically you wanting them to answer what you want them say. And you (media) ask it over and over etc. no wonder these guys walk away.

If you don’t engage with Dr. Paul with something intellectual it will be short session (it’s the same with the 3rd party run question …over and over) its all a stretch guys, I mean is this the best you can dig up? You should be asking about relevancy like how the Federal reserve affects our economy, and why our freedoms are being encroached upon.

Ron Paul can dish it out but he can’t really take it when it comes to this issue.

His newsletter, his name, he needs to explain not deflect

It’s just another feeble attempt to divert attention away from the issues. The establishment is very nervous because if the FED is abolished then so is their financial leverage and ultimate existence.

  • Sterling Bushnell

sounds to me as if ron answered the question of the news letters and feels reporters should be asking him about policys.

    as it should be.

Can you please use a SPELL CHECK before posting your articles?  What is a “juficial” (paragraph 3, second to last word) system?

  • Aol

The irony of this post is that the author completely ignores the profound statements made Ron Paul about institutional racism just a few days ago and spends the majority of the time talking about the same ol’ tired topic of these newsletters.

This is coming from a black person. I don’t care what he or whoever wrote that letter stated 20 years. Please do your job and talk about the issue that he is addressing right now.

No one has put the problems of mass incarceration and militarization as Ron Paul has including Obama and even if one disagrees with his other politics, you have to recognize and give credit to him for having the insight and fortitude to say it on a national debate.
