New York Observer editor-in-chief Elizabeth Spiers has hired The Brooklyn Politics blogger Colin Campbell, she announced today. Mr. Campbell will join the Observer's politics team and contribute extensively to The Politicker.

"I'm very excited to have Colin join the Politicker team," Ms. Spiers said. "His relentlessness and enthusiasm for the beat will be a tremendous asset to the Observer."

A self-described "political junkie" and native of "rural California," Mr. Campbell started The Brooklyn Politics in February. In the ten months since the site's launch, Mr. Campbell has managed to turn it into a powerhouse on the local political news beat with a string of scoops on, among other things, the special election to replace Congressman Anthony Weiner, embattled State Senator Carl Kruger's legal bills and Mayor Bloomberg's donations to same sex marriage opponent Marty Golden. In July, Politico named Mr. Campbell one of the "50 Politicos To Watch" for 2011.

"I'm definitely excited to start at Politicker, it's a classic New York blog," Mr. Campbell said.

Mr. Campbell will join the Observer next month.
