Mayor Michael Bloomberg won't be making endorsements in the race to replace him any time soon.

At a press conference in The Bronx today, The Politicker asked Mayor Bloomberg about former Mayor Ed Koch's endorsement of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the 2013 mayoral election. Mayor Bloomberg said he isn't ready to make a pick in the campaign.

"It's much too early. Ed's got the time to do it, I've got to focus," Mayor Bloomberg said to laughs from the audience.

Ms. Quinn is a close ally of Mayor Bloomberg who's generally regarded as his chosen heir. Mayor Bloomberg noted Mayor Koch's "great judgement," but said it's far too early for him to think about making a similar show of support.

"I haven't had the chance to talk to my predecessor who, as you know, is a very close friend and has great judgement, but at the moment, I'm worried about working as hard as I can to make this city better," Mayor Bloomberg said.

Mayor Bloomberg also reminded the audience that no one will be replacing him for quite some time.

"I think, if you think about it, the election for my successor's not for a whole year from now, or two years from now--basically two years from now, so there's plenty of time to worry about those kinds of things," Mayor Bloomberg said.
