Demos Hits Bishop On 'Horse Slaughter' Vote

Yesterday Congress lifted a five-year ban on funding horse meat inspections. Among the “yay” votes was Suffolk County congressman Tim Bishop, who took some heat from one of his GOP challengers, George Demos.

Mr. Demos accused Congressman Bishop of corruption, since he has supported keeping in place fishery quotas in the waters off of Long Island.

“After the failed Obama-Bishop stimulus plan that created no ‘shovel ready’ jobs, Tim Bishop voted to create ‘slaughter ready’ jobs by voting to authorize the killing of majestic creatures and feeding them to Americans as if we are some third world country,” Mr. Demos said in a statement. “It’s bad enough to outsource American jobs to third world countries without in-sourcing foreign diets to American dinner plates.”

There are currently no slaughter-houses set up for the killing of horses, and if ones were to go into operation animal rights activists were surely descend on the plant in droves.

According to the Associated Press, pro-slaughter activists say the ban had unintended consequences, including an increase in neglect and the abandonment of horses. Most of the meat would be shipped to countries in Europe and Asia.

“Tim Bishop should instead be promoting the consumption of healthy fish that are available off of Long Island’s coastline,” continued Mr. Demos. “But sadly he has done nothing to remedy the injustices of the Magnuson Stevens Act regulationsthat permit fisherman from other states to harvest more fish from Long Island waters than our own fishermen from Greenport and Montauk.”

Mr. Bishop squeezed our a victory over his Republican opponent Randy Altschuler in 2010 in a recount that stretched on into December. Mr. Altschuler is also running in the GOP primary.

“This is yet another example of Tim Bishop’s flip flopping,” said Mr. Demos. “In 2006, Tim Bishop co-sponsored HR 503 that would have prohibited horse slaughter for human consumption. Apparently, Bishop is no longer concerned with the majesty of horses who have served man for centuries both in war and in peace.

“Instead of ‘Let them eat cake,’ our governing class in Washington now declares ‘Let them eat horse’ once again demonstrating why after ten years in Washington, it is time for Tim Bishop to be put out to pasture.”

Im tired of Tim Bishop’s Flip Flopping.  We need someone who will look after Long Islander’s tax dollars and not spend them on failures.  Demos has my vote!
