Texas Governor Rick Perry got a do-over during tonight’s debate. Moderator Scott Pelley asked him about his plan to get rid of the Department of Energy, which he forgot Wednesday.
“Governor Perry, you advocate the elimination of the Department of Energy, if you eliminate the Department of Energy–” Mr. Pelley began. Governor Perry interrupted him.
“Glad you remembered it,” Governor Perry joked.
“I’ve had some time to think about it sir,” Mr. Pelley responded.
“Me too,” Governor Perry laughed.
The exchange elicited loud laughter from the audience. After Governor Perry made fun of himself, Mr. Pelley continued the question.
“If you eliminate the Department of Energy, what do you do with the nuclear weapons?” Mr. Pelley asked.
Governor Perry answered by saying, “There are plenty of places in our government that can have oversight over nuclear energy.”
