Turner Back On Tax Pledge List

Back when he was running against Anthony Weiner, Republican Bob Turner signed a pledge put forward by Republican activist Grover Norquist that he would never consent to raising taxes under any circumstances.

When he was running against David Weprin for Weiner’s seat earlier this year, Turner distanced himself from the pledge, telling WNYC’s Brian Lehrer “I would hate to part with Grover’s money, but it’s probably, I’m pretty close to that. That in the grand scheme, I think the Republicans are happily saying ‘Well, we’re not increasing taxes, we’re just closing loopholes. I like that terminology better than raising taxes. But the reality is, revenue will be increased.”

But now Turner appears to be back in Norquist’s good graces, as his name appears on a list of members of the 112th Congress who have signed the pledge from his group, Americans for Tax Reform.

We have reached out to Turner’s Congressional office for clarification, and will update when we get a response.
