Herman Cain’s chief of staff, Mark Block stars in a new campaign ad that’s become something of a viral video sensation. Mr. Block is featured in the ad explaining why Mr. Cain is his man before taking a dramatic puff of a cigarette.
The beginning of the ad is fairly standard with Mr. Block shot close up giving platitudes about why he’s working for Mr. Cain.
“Since January, I’ve had the privilege of being the chief of staff to Herman Cain … I really believe that Herman Cain will put united back in the United States of America,” Mr. Block says.
As the commercial approaches its end, Mr. Block implores viewers to get involved with the Cain campaign.
“We need you to get involved because together we could do this. We can take this country back,” Mr. Block says.
After he makes his pitch, Mr. Block takes a drag from a cigarette and exhales smoke while staring into the camera. To make sure that you don’t doubt the intensity of the moment you just experienced with the Cain campaign, funky patriotic music plays in the background and the main himself appears.
In the final shot, Mr. Cain faces the camera next to his campaign logo. As we fade to black, Mr, Cain breaks into laughter.
Based on the early reviews, Mr. Cain isn’t the only one laughing at the video, which was posted on YouTube October 19, but not widely disseminated until it began spreading online last night. CBS News called the clip “bizarre,” Salon said it was “bafflingly weird” and Politico noted “it took about ten seconds for someone to scoop up the Twitter account @FakeMarkBlock.”
As of this writing, the ad has received 4,846 views on YouTube earning 508 “likes” and 1,669 “dislikes.” Watch it for yourself below.
